What is a dry skin?

The skin is naturally protected by a hydrolipidic barrier composed of sebum (lipids) and water. Dry skin actually doesn’t produce enough of lipids which weakens the protective ability of the skin barrier. Not only does it get more sensitive to exterior aggressions but also has a hard time keeping the water from the cells that evaporates because of the lack of a protective layer. Less flexible, it marks and wrinkles more easily. All this to say that dry skin needs nourishing facial care in order to get oily substances back, avoid getting dehydrated and become supple again. However, here are some the advantages to it: a beautiful and thin skin texture.

How to recognize a dry skin

  • A permanent sensation of discomfort.
  • Pulling sensation and signs of sensitivity like redness, irritation or itchiness.
  • Dull complexion because of a lack of water, dehydrated skin.
  • Rough skin that lacks softness.
  • Scabs may appear especially in winter time. You can notice cracks on face with very dry skin as well.

Many factors can explain the aggravation of a dry skin such as cold winter air, sudden temperatures changes or even the sun. Aggressive cosmetics can alter the hydrolipidic film too. In other words, you must get rid of alcohol-based products from your skincare routine when you have dry skin. Aging skin loses elasticity because of less collagen and hyaluronic acid, two components that take care of the hydration of the epidermis.

Beauty routine to adopt

Morning and evening: the right routine

What to do about dry skin? Start by drinking water to hydrate it from inside-out. Clean it by nourishing it with oil. It will wrap it with a protective film. Choose rich creams with nourishing benefits to help replenish your skin barrier.

The right masks to apply

After a gentle scrub which will help the skin to receive deep care, apply a nourishing serum-based mask. It will restore the hydrolipidic film and avoid water evaporating. After a day of extreme cold or sun, your dry skin needs a soothing and appeasing actives mask, in order of extensive repair. If you wish to pulp and slow down the first wrinkles, include in your beauty routine regenerating omega-based masks.
